Show the newest clips, streams or videos of a Twitch channel as a WordPress gallery that stays current. Each card plays in a popup with Twitch’s player.
What a Twitch feed puts on the page
A connected Twitch channel turns into an ordinary gallery. The plugin asks Twitch for the newest clips, streams or videos of one channel and saves each one as a Social Item with its thumbnail. After that the block treats them like any other items, with the streamer on the author line. Clicking a card opens the popup, where the clip plays through Twitch’s own player.
The alternative is a Twitch embed block, or a media item where you paste the clip link into Video URL yourself. Both are fine for one clip. Neither keeps up with a channel that publishes every week. Pick the feed when the page should follow the channel without you touching it again. For video from another network, the YouTube feed gallery runs on the same importer.
Clips, streams and the settings behind them
Two screens decide what a Twitch gallery holds. The account form under Settings picks what gets imported, and the block picks what is shown. The Twitch feed documentation lists every field with its default.
- Source asks the channel for Clips, Streams or Videos, and starts on Clips.
- By matches the channel as a User Login or a Channel Name, and the field under it takes that name. For twitch.tv/pwrdesports1 you enter pwrdesports1.
- Max Posts accepts 1 to 200 and defaults to 30. That is how many of the newest posts every sync asks for.
- Every item arrives with a title, a date, a view count, a thumbnail and the streamer as its author. Videos add their description.
- On the block, Order by takes Date or Title and starts on Date, with Order Direction on DESC, so the newest clip sits first.
- Views arrive with the item, but Display Views Count only renders for YouTube and Flickr. Like counts are never rendered.
- The Filter element has nothing to list for social items, so leave it off. Infinite scroll, load more and paged pagination all work.
Three steps from the Twitch popup to the page
- Under Visual Portfolio, open Settings and the Social Feeds tab, then the Twitch panel. Press + Connect and Get Access Token, log in to Twitch in the popup and authorize the app.
- Set Source, the channel login and Max Posts, then press Save Changes. The first import starts right after saving, and the clips show up under Visual Portfolio, Social Items.
- Add the Visual Portfolio block to a page, set Content Source to Social, pick Twitch and your account, then choose the layout and the pagination. For a page builder, save it as a layout and drop that layout in.
Pro covers the feed, not the grid
A Twitch account cannot be connected without a license. Everything the block does with them afterwards, popup included, runs in the free plugin. Storage, broken links and a stalled sync
Do the clips get copied to my server?
No. The video keeps playing from Twitch. The thumbnail and the streamer’s avatar land under wp-content/uploads/visual-portfolio-pro/, in a folder named after the network, and appear in the Media Library under its Social filter. Can I fix a clip that no longer plays?
Yes. Open the entry under Visual Portfolio, Social Items and correct its Video URL. The title, the content and the featured image are editable in the same place. A sync only adds posts it has not seen, so it never writes over what you changed. The Social Items screen also has an Exclude from Sync action for one you never want back.
Why does the feed stop updating on a quiet site?
Imports run on WP-Cron, which only fires when somebody visits the site. A full sync runs every 2 hours, and a five minute job refreshes one account once its data is older than three hours. The Twitch access token is renewed hourly on the same scheduler, so a quiet site with no real cron falls behind on both.
