# Migration to v3

Visual Portfolio 3.0, released in October 2023, changed the skin templates and the control names. This note is for sites upgrading from 2.x.

## What migrated on its own

Galleries were merged with the new settings the first time the page was re-saved. Saved Layouts were migrated as well.

## What had to be changed by hand

Custom styles written against the old caption classes had to be rewritten against the new ones.

Third-party skins that used the old `builtin_controls` keys had to be updated to the new keys. Fallbacks for the old keys still exist, so an old skin keeps working.
